Vallely of Yellow Flowers

"Thung Lung Hoa Vang" with the addition of a few marks (a wavy line over the u in Lung and a downward slash over the a in Vang) means "Valley of Yellow Flowers" in Vietnamese. That is a name given to the San Jose, California area with surrounding valley by Vietnamese immigrants. Drive through the area on a late winter or early spring day (February-March) and you will understand why. Beautiful "Mustard Flowers," embedded in bright spring-green foliage, carpet the ground where ever they can take root. The same is true in Sacramento, Napa Valley, and other surrounding areas. These beautiful weeds welcome spring and last quite a long while. I couldn't help stopping by a local bike trail to break off a few flowers to bring home.
