Ball Lake Beaver Works

June 4, 2009
Ball Lake is a small lake a few short miles from the larger Hamilton Lake in Steuben County, Indiana. We parked at a boat launch and walked through the weeds around the lake to observe last winter's works done by beavers. Very interesting to see how carefully the beavers plan and make their cuts. The ground had evidence of many little wood chips.

Looking out over the water we could see turtles sunning themselves on a fallen log.
Another log made a nice backdrop for this iris. Queen Anne's Lace was blooming along the adjoining stream.

The branches here have intersected one another for so long that one cuts into the other quite deeply.
