Mackinac Island - June 12, 2009

The Mackinac Island Lilac Festival was the point of our journey to the Straights of Mackinac between Michigan's Lower and Upper Peninsulas. To our disappointment, an unusually cold spring delayed the maturing of the blossoms. Had they been more timely, we probably would have been overcome with the sweet fragrance of some of my favorite flowers.

The beautiful weather did allow a very enjoyable tour of the island by horse drawn buggies. We stopped to tour the fort and a few other buildings, as well as the state park and natural arch formation. People who toured a day earlier reported 6" of rain in the streets. We were blessed.
